Day 84 (3.31.09)

From snow to rain...

OK, honestly I was really questioning my decision to get a dog. All of a sudden I had SO much more work! Cleaning, training, feeding, walking AND the worst - dirty paws! And it has been snowing and now raining! One thing about me - I'm always overwhelmed with new situations - kids being born, moving, you name it... Just the nature of the beast, I'll get used to Coco - kids love her!

Day 82 (3.29.09)

March snowstorm...

I can't belive it snowed! They were talking about it, and talking about it, I just didn't think it would. Made for some beautiful scenery. I am SO ready for spring to come! It's been a long, tough winter. Good news is - all of this melted by the time I got home from work (well, most of it anyway)

Day 85 (3.26.09)

Playdate-o-rama...

So this is the first time I had Nicole, Brandon (Alush's friend) AND the dog in the house all at once. I always feel that Alush is getting the short end of the stick - Oli always has friends, playdates, bithday parties. Alush, well he is a little more reserved. So he was SO excited to play with Brandon! They left me exhausted...but happy.

Day 78 (3.19.09)

Tea Party...

The kids got all dressed up, the china and white tablecloths came out to honor letter 'T' with a Tea Party. Such a nice event, the kids really loved it. Coconut started the day by trying to chew Olivia's dress and tights. That dog needs some bones and rawhides! She did cry when we left her in the crate (not too long though - she only needs to last 3 hours).

Day 77 (3.18.09)

Adoption Day...

So it turns out we got Coconut after all! We met with Alive Rescue ladies at a Starbucks in the city. We signed paperwork, put her collar on AND she was ours! Now what? AAAAaaaaa - help! I have 2 kids and an animal! She began by marking the house (no1 and no2) but settled down for the night pretty well. We will see what happens next!

Day 73 (3.14.09)

The language barrier...

So, today we hosted husband's family from Mexico. All was fine, except they could speak as many English words as I could Spanish, which made for some reale interesting moments. The kids refused to play with the guests, the men talked amongs themselves while I was trying to make the ladies feel welcomed. Hopefully between hand gestures and smiles they got my message...

Day 70 (3.11.09)

Cloudy Future...

So I'm really freaked out. Things at work are weird, I'm nervous about getting the dog and I'm not feeling so well. Maybe yoga will help. We shall see ...

Day 69 (3.10.09)

Floods...

I drive by this golf course every day on my way to work for the last 5 years. In the last 4, I have seen it flood once. It the past year it has been flooded several times. Last month alone - it flooded twice. What you see here is a parking lot turned into a lake. Gotta wonder is this what's coming as a result of global warming? Weather on steroids...

Day 68 (3.9.09)

Coconut...

After searching for hours on the internet we found this cute little dog. Look at the eyes, they just seem to speak to you! You would think that once you decide this is the one getting her is easy. No way! First, a looong application with references and essay questions, phone interview, and then a home visit! We actually have to wait a full week to meet her at our house. I don't think I can wait that long! On the flip side - that makes me feel pretty good about the rescue group...

Day 67 (3.8.09)

Wash-out...

It was raining ALL day today. Downpours, thunder, some light rain and everything in-between. We were SO bored! Looked for dogs at Petfinder until Nicole called. Thank God! We had her come over to play with Olivia to break-up the monotony. We baked cupcakes with pink frosting, played and had fun!

Day 66 (3.7.09)

Wrong-Way Sales Center

We are seriously considering getting a dog. Not buying, but adopting a young adult from a shelter. SO today we went to visit our local shelter and THIS place. OMG - this place was a ZOO and not because of the animals! They had a cash register dinging away as people fell in love with sad-eye puppies, bought them at a big discount and took them home. No questions asked. What a scam!

Day 65 (3.6.09)

A game of baseball...

Olivia was at Nicole's again... All day! Those two get along real well. Since it was really warm today (almost 60!) Alush and I played baseball in the front yard. He can hit pretty good, but enjoyed a peculiar type of base tag the most. How does it work? Well, he tries to steal bases and I try to tag him out...

Day 64 (3.5.09)

Skating...

I was off today, so I was able to attend Olivia's field trip to the Skatium. She did awesome! She was able to skate from one end to the other, but with few exceptions the class overall was very good on skates. I took the opportunity to put on skates myself and really enjoyed the time on the ice. I practically grew up on skates and still love the feel of wind on my face as I skate.

Day 63 (3.4.09)

The Office...

Everyone is on the edge - the bosses were meeting behind closed doors for a few days now. It is supposed to be about health insurance (lets hope), but with the lay-off all around everyone is nervous. Finally at the end of the day we had a meeting - it was 'only' health insurance, but the news there wasn't great. The cost went up (more out of my pocket) and the benefits went down... At least we ALL still have jobs..

Day 62 (3.3.09)

Mini Sleep-over

That's just a sleep-over where you go to a friend's house with a bag, teddy and PJ's, stay there until passed your bedtime, but still come home to sleep. This is what Olivia did at Nicole's house today. She was SO excited! They made cookies and pretzels. We shall see if they can last a whole night next time...

Day 61 (3.2.09)

The Drive-In

I'm always amazed at what these kids come up with. Today they took all their cars to a movie theater as they battled with swords. The noise level was just out of control! They play really well together, so well that they decided to have a sleep-in. Translation: they fall asleep in one bed. So cute...

Day 60 (3.1.09)

Chilles Rellenos...

Great family Sunday. Ok, you have to understand that my husband only goes in the kitchen to eat and help clean up. Translation: he can cook a hot dog, Ramen soup and sandwich. So today he he decided to cook with me! How awesome is that? You are looking at his meatetarian version of the dish. He cooked the meat AND stuffed the peppers. Gotta love him!

Day 59 (2.28.09)

Far away showers.

I drove 55 miles and over 1hr to Infusion Tea Shoppe in Geneva to attend Carla's bridal shower. Here we were treated to a brief history of tea and given a large menu of teas to choose from. I usually dread showers and the silly games that go along with it, but this was really well put together. Not a bit tacky or overflowing with estrogen. Nice job! Pssss- maybe because Carla's an architect?
